Earlier today The Wall Street Journal released a report regarding two alleged sexual assault victims who were seeking compensation from Vince McMahon, and that report also stated that McMahon told some of his close associates that he was considering returning to WWE. The report stated that McMahon said he was given bad advice about his retirement and that he now believes the allegations and investigations would have ended if he had stayed. Now an additional report from Choose a fight Addressing the reaction internally to McMahon’s return, there doesn’t seem to be much desire for that to happen.
As Fightful reports, they’ve heard from several employees and talent within WWE, with one talent calling the news “exhausting and was hoping this was all in the backsight. Another said he was worried about the talent being brought back if McMahon was to return, but someone higher up.” He wasn’t too worried.
This person mentioned how the share price has risen and viewership has increased, as well as how public morale has recovered since McMahon’s retirement. They said “It would be a really selfish move for Vince to come back under any circumstances. Why he left, how the business has been done since – it would be really selfish. But it was the selfish activities that got him to leave in the first place.” That source added that they do not believe he will return despite his voting power within the company.
A longtime employee said morale has increased tenfold since McMahon’s retirement, and said they don’t think he’ll come back whether he wants to or not. Another employee of more than ten years said that they believe the McMahon family would encourage him to stay retired, and if he did return, they believed it would do irreparable damage to WWE as a brand. They also said that the few people who thought WWE would implode internally have been proven wrong, and one name has admitted it.
The report states that they spoke to more than a dozen talent, talent, and staff members on December 13 about the report, and the general reaction was that McMahon was not required to return in his previous positions.
